Portland Climber Fatally Injured In Fall From Beacon Rock

A 30 year old Portland Oregon area man was fatally injured after falling over 100 feet from Beacon Rock late Sunday afternoon.  The man and his climbing partner were rappelling down the popular South corner route at approximately 5:30 PM when the accident occurred.  Beacon Rock is a popular rock climbing venue during the summer months.  

Rescue personnel from Skamania County Sheriff’s Office, Skamania County EMS, Skamania County Fire Districts 1 and 2, and North Bonneville Fire responded to the incident. 

“This is a very unfortunate event that has taken place today,” said Undersheriff Dave Cox.  “Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family, co-workers, and friends of this young man”.

The names of the involved parties are not being released at this time pending next of kin notification.  As further information is developed, a media update will be provided.
