5:30 p.m.

The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 1:37 p.m. reporting a possible drowning in the upper Wind River north of Carson Washington. Responding deputies learned that a 47 year old White Salmon man, Mark Snepp, had been working in the river for the US Fish and Wildlife with his partner. They were working a fish survey when the two became separated. He was found face down a short time later by his partner in approximately 2 feet of water just upstream from where his partner was working. He was wearing a personal flotation device, scuba mask, and snorkel.

“We do not know the cause of this unattended death at this point and have requested that an autopsy be done to assist in the investigation,” said Undersheriff Dave Cox. “Our condolences go out to his family, friends, and coworkers”.

We will issue an update to this investigation when it is completed.
