The human remains that were located on Sunday, September 23rd in western Skamania County have been positively identified as those of to Kenneth P. Stovner. Stovner was reported missing about April 12th, 1980 from his residence on Belle Center Road in Washougal, WA. He was 39 years old at the time of his disappearance. An intense investigation and search of the area around the residence revealed no clues to Stovner’s whereabouts at that time.
Stovner’s remains were located approximately ½ mile west of his former residence on Belle Center Road in a heavily wooded and brushy area on the afternoon of Sunday September 23rd, 2012. A landowner was clearing the area and located what he believed to be human remains. An intense 4 day search of the scene and surrounding area provided the needed evidence to be able to positively identify Stovner.
Agencies that assisted with the investigation of the area included the Multnomah County Search and Rescue, Pacific Crest Search Dogs, Cowlitz County Search and Rescue, Clark County Search and Rescue, Wind River Search and Rescue, Silver Star Search and Rescue, and Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue.
The manner of death has yet to be determined in this case.
Skamania County Detectives are continuing with the investigation.
