Four Skamania County Sheriff’s Office Explorers successfully completed the Kiwanis / Washington State Patrol Law Enforcement Explorer Academy this summer held at the Washington State Patrol Academy in Shelton, WA. Ciara Griffee, Rebecca Gonser, Ty O’Neal, and Cheyanne Plank attended classes in the one week academy that included basic field work, patrol procedures, narcotics, driving, water safety, drill and ceremony, firing range, and practical mock scenes. Gonser received an award for Best Female Swimmer. “We are very proud of these young men and women of our community for this accomplishment” stated Chief Criminal Deputy Pat Bond. “The training they went through will give them a more thorough knowledge of the Law Enforcement profession and hopefully a career as well.”

The Explorers were accompanied by Deputy Steve Rasmussen, who was an Assistant Tactical Officer with the training staff for the week. “They are an outstanding group of young adults and I’m proud of each of them”, Rasmussen said.

If there are any youth interested in joining the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office Explorer program, please contact Deputies Steve Rasmussen or Christian Lyle at 509-427-9490.
