Search Continues For 60 Year Old Mushroom Picker

0945 hours

Late Sunday afternoon at approximately 3:00 pm, December 2nd, the Skamania County Sheriff’s office was notified of a mushroom picker that had been missing since approximately 4:30 pm Saturday, December 1st,  northwest of Mill A, WA in south central Skamania County.

 Gail Wietrick, 60, from Troutlake, WA was last seen Saturday afternoon when she left Little Rock Creek road to check for mushrooms, approximately 4 miles northwest of Mill A.  Wietrick’s party searched for her throughout the night and the next day until notifying authorities at 3:00 pm Sunday, December 2nd

 A ground search was immediately initiated with approximately 20 searchers and continued throughout Sunday evening.  Currently there are approximately 15 searchers in the area, with an additional 35 requested through the Washington State Department of Emergency Management at Camp Murray, WA. 

 Weather in the search area:  Raining, approximately 45 degrees, clouds ground level, slight breeze.

 Elevation of point last seen:  2450’

 Terrain:  Steep, densely forested with brush.

 The Command Post is located at the end of Little Rock Creek Road in Mill A.
