MEDIA RELEASE

***UPDATE***

8:50 PM

Search operations were suspended as of  8:00 PM this evening for a missing 19 year old Vancouver, WA woman.  Maureen Kelly, 19, of Vancouver Washington was last seen Sunday afternoon about 5:00 PM in the Canyon Creek area of western Skamania County.    Kelly had left the Canyon Creek Campground  just after 5:00 PM on Sunday afternoon to go on a “spiritual quest” on foot and was reported just after midnight early this morning as overdue.   She was reported to be naked and had little as far as supplies and equipment with her.

“Search teams, including 2 K-9 SAR teams searched the area today and were unable to locate Ms. Kelly”, said Undersheriff Dave Cox.  “We have suspended search efforts this evening as of  8:00 PM and will resume search operations at  8:00 AM from the USFS Chelatchie Prairie facility in Amboy, WA.  We will be utilizing vehicles to begin operations and will continue to evaluate the situation as the morning progresses.”

The Canyon Creek area is steep and mountainous with heavy timber and brush.  It is unknown whether she may have been on a road or trail in the area, or if she is moving cross country.  “We are asking anyone from the public that may have been in the area of Canyon Creek and the FS 54 road system within the last 24 hours to contact our office if they may have seen Ms Kelly on her quest,” Cox said.

The number for the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office is 509-427-9490.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
