A Skamania County man was arrested on a charge of Assault in the First Degree Domestic Violence after the Clark County SWAT team had to go in to his home at 122 Thorp Lane in Washougal early Monday morning. David L. Simmons was taken into custody without incident at approximately 0600 am after he allegedly assaulted his live-in caregiver, Amy Mason, with a knife. Mason, 30, was taken to Peace Health medical center where her condition is unknown at this time.
Simmons, 73, refused to come out of his residence when Skamania County Deputies arrived to question him about the assault at approximately 0130 am. Because it was unknown if Simmons was armed, the Clark County SWAT team was requested and was able to safely remove Simmons from the residence.
“We are fortunate to have a resource such as the Clark County SWAT Team at our disposal”, said Undersheriff Dave Cox. “We are thankful for their very professional and meticulous tactical operation which provided us with the positive outcome for this incident”.
Further charges may be pending dependent upon a search warrant being served at this time at the residence.
This incident is not related to the Vancouver shooting incident from this morning.
If further information becomes available, an update will be sent out.
