The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office was recently awarded a Law Enforcement Partnership grant to help reduce underage drinking in Skamania County.
Underage drinking is recognized as a significant social, economic and physical problem in communities throughout the United States and the communities in Skamania County are no exception.
Through the efforts of the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office and the community based One Prevention Alliance coalition, Alcohol Purchase Surveys and Alcohol Compliance checks will be conducted in December 2013 and February 2014 throughout Skamania County
These checks will be conducted to ensure that responsible business owners who are licensed to sell or serve alcohol are appropriately identifying customers in order to confirm they are of legal age to purchase or consume alcoholic beverages.
Beginning next week, potential customers will enter businesses with the intent of purchasing alcohol.
The hope is that sales employees will be diligent in their ongoing effort to appropriately identify individuals prior to selling or serving alcoholic beverages.
The same type of checks will occur again in February of 2014.
We know that businesses go to great lengths to ensure compliance with Washington law as it applies to the purchase and use of alcohol. It is our hope that we will we find 100% compliance and success in businesses throughout Skamania County.
