The human remains that were located on 9 August 2014 near the 7100 foot level on the south slope of Mt St Helens were positively identified this morning as those of YOSUKE ONISHI. Mr ONISHI had been missing since 27 November, 2013 when he was initially reported missing after not returning to the Lone Fir Resort in Cougar, WA to pick up his personal effects. Mr. ONISHI reportedly left the Lone Fir Resort on the morning of the 27th with the plan to go to the summit of Mt St Helens by way of the Climbers Bivouac. He never returned to the Lone Fir Resort.
The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office determined Mr ONISHI’s identity this weekend. The cause of death has yet to be determined at this point. “Once the reports are forwarded from the Medical Examiner’s Office, our Coroner can hopefully make an official determination on cause of death” said Undersheriff Dave Cox. “We would again like to thank everyone who has participated in recovering Mr. ONISHI so his family can have some final closure to this incident.”
Thank you all.
