May 6, 2015
The week of May 10-16, 2015 is officially recognized as National Police Week. This annual observance is filled with events across the nation that take time to honor our nations law enforcement officers who have given the ultimate sacrifice and died in the line of duty. The National event takes place in Washington D.C. and is, for surviving family members, an opportunity to meet with others who have been devastated by the loss of a family member who served in law enforcement across the United States.
The day of May 15th is set aside as National Peace Officer Memorial day and is historically the day when local communities honor their own officers who have died in the line of duty.
The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office will hold a ceremony on Friday May 15th at 11am on the courthouse lawn in Stevenson.
This event is open to all who would like to attend. Please consider taking a few moments out of your day to join members of the Sheriff’s Office and law enforcement officers from the Columbia Gorge region in honoring those who gave their lives while serving our communities.
