A fixed wing aircraft assisting in the search for the missing berry picker off Forest road 24 in the Sawtooth Berry fields near Troutlake, WA spotted the missing berry picker this morning.
Wasco Fujiwara had been the subject of an intensive search effort since Thursday afternoon when the Skamania County Sheriff’s dispatch center received a call from 57 year old Lisa Fujiwara out of Bend Oregon. Fujiwara reported her 87 year old mother, Wasco Fujiwara from The Dalles OR, was missing after the two were picking huckleberries in the Sawtooth Berry fields.
Fujiwara was found approximately 2 miles southeast of the point last seen. The aircraft spotted Fujiwara sitting on a log and waving to the airplane. Search teams found what they believed to be shoe prints of Fujiwara yesterday afternoon. Efforts were focused in the area of the prints. A helicopter from King County flew last night utilizing FLIR technology(forward looking infrared) with no success. After the aircraft spotted Fujiwara this morning, search teams on horseback were sent to the location and found her in good condition.
Fujiwara was evaluated by searchers and was being brought out by horseback.
Volunteer searchers from across the region participated in the search effort over the past two days. There were over 60 ground searchers on site as well as quads and dog teams.
