Monday, May 16, 2016

On 5/15/16 at approximately 05:00 am, the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting an assault. The caller, Jillian Denton, 34, of Portland, Oregon reported being assaulted by her ex-boyfriend while the couple was camping near Old Man Pass, 25 miles north of Carson, Washington.

Denton was calling from a mini mart in Stevenson and it was there she was contacted by Deputies. She told Deputies, she, her 10 year old son, and ex-boyfriend, Micah Herrera, 36, of Medford, Oregon had gone camping in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. They found a spot near Old Man Pass, north of Carson. During the evening hours an argument ensued which led to a physical assault perpetrated by Herrera.

Further investigation revealed a handgun was displayed, by Denton, to stop the assault. It was quickly taken away by Herrera and at some point he sustained a burn type injury to his hand. He then demanded Denton transport him to receive medical attention for his burn.  Once in Stevenson, she and her son were able to distance themselves from Herrera and call 911.

Herrera was subsequently arrested and booked into the Skamania County jail on charges of Assault II Domestic Violence – Strangulation and an outstanding arrest warrant from another Washington law enforcement agency.
