SEARCH CONTINUES FOR MISSING LONGVIEW MAN

The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office continues to coordinate search efforts on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest above the Muddy River for Wilford R. Johnson, age 90 from Longview, WA.

The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Johnson’s family on 6/29/17 reporting him as missing and endangered. Yesterday at approximately 9:20am, Skamania County dispatchers received a call of an abandoned vehicle located near M.P. 7 on the Forest road 93 approximately 30 miles northeast of Cougar, WA.

Deputies responded to the location of the vehicle and after a search of the surrounding area were unable to locate Johnson.

Search crews from the Volcano Rescue team, along with family members searched the surrounding area and roads until dark last night. Search efforts resumed this morning with 24 searchers and 2 K-9 teams along with 13 family members. Search efforts are focused on the main roads and all spur roads in the area. The search area is free of snow.

Johnson is reported to suffer from dementia. A photo of Johnson is attached to this media release.

Search efforts will continue throughout the day.
