Smoke from British Columbia and Northern Washington wild fires have settled in the Columbia River Gorge, as well as most of Washington State and northern Oregon, creating a heavy haze and smell of smoke for Skamania County residents.
The Northwest Interagency Coordination Center (NWCC) shows no active fires burning in Skamania County although there is an active fire burning southwest of Mabton, WA and several large fires on the Washington State and Canadian border.
Forecasters say air quality will be poor over the next few days although the Environmental Protection Agency reported this morning that Portland’s air quality index is still “good.”
People with respiratory problems, heart or lung disease, seniors and children should avoid heavy or prolonged exercise or play outside and really should stay inside and keep windows and doors closed, if possible, depending on the heat.
