Injured Climber Rescued Off Mt. St. Helens

On Sunday, April 22, 2018, at approximately 8:41 am The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an injured hiker on Mt. St. Helens. The information received was a female hiker had injured and possibly broken her ankle on her decent from the summit. She was reported to be at the 5700’ level.

 A Skamania County Search & Rescue Deputy, along with the Volcano Rescue Team (VRT) responded to the Mable Mountain Snow Park for rescue coordination. The VRT, utilizing snowmobiles were able to locate, administer aid, and remove Jacqueline R. Luevamo, 33, Olympia, WA from the mountain.

Luevamo began her decent from the Worm Flow Route when she twisted her ankle and was unable to continue. She was able to communicate with 911 and rescue personnel by phone.  At approximately 2:40 pm, The VRT had returned Luevamo to the snow park where she was transported by a private vehicle for treatment.
