Fatal Fire In Stevenson

On Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at approximately 7:22 pm The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a structure fire at 241 Moore Road in Stevenson, Washington.  The 911 caller advised her neighbors home was on fire.

Skamania County Deputies, Stevenson Fire, Fire District #2, and Carson Fire District #1 were all dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival it was determined a resident of the home was still inside. The first responding Deputy, along with Fire District #2 Personnel were able to extricate Ella Louise Moore, 66, by entering through a rear window of the residence. The fire personnel encountered heavy smoke and extreme heat upon entering the trailer. The fireman were able to cut a hole in the rear of the trailer to remove Moore from the residence. Lifesaving efforts were immediately started. Skamania County EMS responded and took over patient care. Mrs. Moore was not able to be revived and died at the scene.

According to witnesses, the fire appeared to start at the front of the single-wide trailer. Moore’s husband, Jeff, attempted to save his wife but was unable to get her out of the back bedroom. The Clark County Fire Marshall was dispatched and is assisting our office with determining a cause of the fire.

 Mrs. Moore was transported to the Clark County Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy to determine the cause of her death. The investigation into the fire is on-going.
