On Sunday, September 16th 2018 the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office
Dive Rescue / Recovery Team took time out of their regular in-service
training to clean up local waterways. People drive past these bodies of
water everyday but don’t realize the mess and hazards that lies beneath;
cans, bottles, toilet seats, furniture, appliances, car parts, tires, and many
other disgusting items. Today the team tackled the Wind River boat launch
and adjacent main river. Over the past two decades the dive team has chosen
different waterways in which to conduct their cleanup. Over the years hundreds
if not thousands of pounds of trash has been removed by the team and they will
continue the service as long as it is needed. Persons interested in becoming a
member of the dive team can go to the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office web
page, under programs, to see dive team requirements, team photos and an on-line
application.
