Fatal ATV Accident In Gifford Pinchot Forest

On Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at approximately 10:10 pm The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a fatal ATV collision near the USFS 2592 road,18 miles east of Cougar, Washington, on private timber land. Frank Yela, Fire District #6 Fire Chief called to report the incident and that an injured female had been transported to his residence, near the Northwoods Cabins. He was advised the ATV operator was still at the scene of the collision, deceased.

Fire District #6, North Country EMS, and a Deputy responded to the scene and found Eric J. Heath, 47, of Washougal, Washington deceased as reported. His passenger, Nicole R. Bryden, 38, of Vancouver was transported, via ambulance, to SW Washington Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. The initial reports indicate Heath was riding a quad with inoperative headlights and that he was not familiar with the area. There are indications alcohol and/or speed may have been a contributing factor, the investigation is on-going. Heath was taken to the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
