Sheriff’s Office Seeks Help From Public

Tuesday, 22 January,2019

The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance with a missing person’s case out of the Stevenson, Washington area.  On 10/09/2017 our office responded to an area just north of Stevenson for a report of suspicious circumstances.

Deputy’s responded to a dispersed camp site and discovered what appeared to be signs off an assault. The camper, William “Bill” Sutton, 55, was not found in or around the campsite. Sutton had been camping in the area for a protracted period, with a group of transients, before moving to this new campsite.

Due to the condition of the camp and evidence found at the scene, we believe Sutton was the victim of foul play and likely died of homicidal violence. To this date his whereabouts are unknown. Our office is continuing to interview witnesses and process additional evidence, however we are asking for the public’s assistance in obtaining any additional information to help solve this case.

If you were in the area of Blue Lake Road on or about the weekend of 10/6/17 through 10/9/17 or may have seen anything suspicious after those dates, we ask that you call the Sheriff’s Office at (509) 427-9490 and ask for Detective Sgt. Buettner or Detective Schultz.
