Skamania County has been chosen as the location for the 2011 Rainbow Festival Family Gathering. The Rainbow Family of Living light is an international group of individuals who come together once a year to try and “achieve peace and love on Earth.” The festival was started in the 1970’s and moves to a different National Forest every year and this year the Skookum Meadows area in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest has been selected.
Skamania County Sheriff’s Office is asking the citizens to be aware that the population of the county will significantly rise in the next few weeks leading up to the Festival, which is actually July 1st-7th. The number of attendees is expected to be around 15,000. The Sheriff’s Office is working in conjunction with the United States Forest Service who will also have Law Enforcement Agents working in the area to accommodate the high number of individuals.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who has any questions or concerns regarding the Rainbow Festival to please email them to firstname.lastname@example.org or contact Chief Pat Bond at the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office at 509-427-9490. We also ask that anyone who is trying to locate a missing person they may believe to be attending the Rainbow Festival, juvenile or adult, to remember that you can also report that to your local Law Enforcement Agency, as well as Skamania County. We ask that, due to the high volume of inquiries regarding the Rainbow Festival, unless you have an actual 911 emergency, please refer to the Sheriff’s Office business line or email.
