Skamania County Sheriff’s Dispatch received 10,000 calls for service in 2017.  CDO’s are responsible for answering administrative and 911 lines as well as dispatching appropriate units to calls for service.

The Job

The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office is a full service agency with challenging opportunities in Communications/Corrections for entry-level officers of all experience levels. This classification is two-fold, serving as a Communication Officer and Correction Officer. The Communication Officer serves as a communications link by receiving, recording, and relaying information to the appropriate agencies/or personnel regarding fire, aid, law enforcement, or emergency management situations. The Correction Officer is responsible for booking, releasing, monitoring activities and caring for prisoners received into custody at the County jail in accordance with standard operating procedures. Corrections positions offer a wide variety of challenging emergency and routine duties including:
 Receives 911 emergency calls.
 Dispatches Police/Fire/EMS on an emergency and routine basis
 Handles routine radio communications with outside local agencies
 Operates the ACCESS, NCIC, and WACIC terminals to send and receive messages
 Monitors all jail activities through audio/visual monitors and personal contact
 Handles the routine operations of booking, inmate activities, and court security
 Monitors and tracks inmate funds
 Maintains jail facility security through the implementation of fair and consistent adherence to facility standards

Qualifications

- Solid writing skills, basic document preparation using computer technology? At least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of appointment
United States' Citizenship at the time of appointment; Ability to read and write the English language (required by RCW 41.14.00)
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to complete certification through the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center as a Corrections Officer
- Have no prior felony convictions and/or recent or excessive drug usage history
- Have the ability to perform the essential mental and physical demands and functions of the position
- High school diploma, or G.E.D, and a combination of education and/or experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

- Cannot have consumed marijuana within 12 months or any illegal drug within 5 years.

Salary & Benefits

The salary range is $3543 - $4225 per month. The salary range is based upon 2018 negotiated rates. Skamania County provides a generous benefits package, which includes medical and dental insurance, paid holidays, vacation, sick leave and retirement. This position is represented and requires membership in the Skamania County Law Enforcement Guild.

Currently testing is done through a third party company known as Public Safety Testing. Testing includes a physical agility test and timed written exam. Click on the picture to the right to be forwarded to their website and get the process started!

After the Test

If selected you will be interviewed by a panel followed by a practical scenario. Phase two requires applicants to take part in a polygraph and psychological exam. The final phase is an interview with the Sheriff.
