STATEWIDE SCHOOL SHOOTING THREAT HOAX AFFECTS STEVENSON HIGH SCHOOL

05/10/2023

On 05/10/2023, the Skamania County Communications Center received a phone call making allegations of a school shooting. The unidentified caller made threats to conduct a school shooting at Stevenson High School. Skamania County Communications Officer Rob Itzen and Undersheriff Tracy Wyckoff worked in conjunction to organize a school lockdown and law enforcement response. Law enforcement officers from Skamania County Sheriff’s Office, as well as Washington State Fish and Wildlife, immediately responded to the Stevenson High School. A thorough search of the school building and property was conducted and no threat was located. It was later determined the threat was a hoax that affected numerous communications centers throughout Washington state.

“I am thoroughly impressed by the quick coordination actions made by Officer Itzen and Undersheriff Wyckoff and the rapid actions taken by Stevenson High School staff members,” stated Sheriff Summer Scheyer. “I was one of the law enforcement officers who responded to Stevenson High School and was able to witness, firsthand, how incredibly well the high school staff facilitated this lockdown. The responding law enforcement officers also did a phenomenal job in their diligent response, ensuring the safety of Stevenson High School students. This was a concerted effort, and I am thankful for all of those responsible in making this a seamless, safe response.”
