PORTLAND MAN RESCUED ON CAPE HORN TRAIL THE DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING

12/02/2024

On 11/29/2024, the Skamania County Communications Center received a request for assistance on the Cape Horn Trail, located east of Washougal, Washington and within Skamania County. The caller reported his friend, a 57-year-old male from Portland, Oregon, experienced a knee injury on the trail and could not continue. A Skamania County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Coordinator was assigned and began acquiring resources to assist with the extraction.

Volunteers from the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue and Silver Star Search and Rescue Teams responded to the area and deployed into the field. Volunteers quickly located the hiker and prepared him for extrication. The hiker was returned to the trailhead by volunteers without further incident.

Thank you to the multiple volunteers who responded and assisted with this search, taking time away from their families on the Thanksgiving weekend to selflessly serve others.
