This week, the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office proudly joins agencies across the nation in celebrating National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (NPSTW), observed April 13–19, 2025. This annual event honors the unseen heroes of public safety — the 9-1-1 dispatchers, call takers, and communications professionals who serve as the vital link between the public and emergency services.
Every day, 24/7, telecommunicators answer distress calls, provide life-saving instructions, and coordinate responses among law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other first responders. Often heard but rarely seen, these professionals demonstrate unwavering dedication, quick thinking, and calm under pressure — making a critical difference in countless lives.
“Telecommunicators are an integral component of emergency services,” states Sheriff Summer Scheyer. “They are the calm voice during chaos, guiding callers through their worst moments and ensuring help gets where it’s needed most. This week, we recognize their hard work, compassion, and commitment to our community.”
To all our telecommunicators: thank you for your professionalism, your compassion, and your constant presence on the other end of the line. Your work does not go unnoticed.
