The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office held our annual awards dinner this weekend and we are pleased to announce the recipients.
Employees of the Year are chosen from peer votes and the recipients are:
Civil Deputy: Nancy Allen (Not Pictured)
Corrections/Communications Officer: Ryley Hickman
Patrol Deputy: Brandon Van Pelt
In addition to these awards, an Achievement in Excellence Award and a Lifesaving Award were presented.
The Achievement in Excellence Award was presented to Deputy Brandon Van Pelt for extraordinary initiative and professionalism during a routine traffic stop. Through keen observation and decisive action, Deputy Van Pelt seized illegal firearms, controlled substances, and a cellular device containing evidence of A.I. generated pornography. This seizure directly facilitated the identification of victims and the recovery of evidence documenting the exploitation of minors across multiple states. Deputy Van Pelt’s exemplary actions not only advanced a complex investigation but also laid the critical foundation for prosecution, ensuring justice for the affected victims
The Lifesaving Award was presented to Officer Shayne Cross when he recognized a medical emergency involving Sgt. Barnett and immediately requested EMS assistance, ensuring lifesaving care. In recognition of his swift and professional response, this award was presented to Officer Cross.
