K9 RESPONSIBLE FOR TWO CAPTURES IN TWO DAYS

04/19/2023 – In just over 24 hours, Skamania County Sheriff’s Office K9 Remi and his handler, Deputy Will Helton, have assisted in capturing two separate suspects. On 04/17/2023, Deputy W. Helton and K9 Remi were requested to respond to a residence in Hood River, Oregon for assistance in apprehending a burglary suspect. During their response, K9 Remi was utilized to assist in the capture of Pedro Ayala Solorio, 27, of Hood River, Oregon.

On 04/18/2023, a Washougal resident reported a burglary in progress near the 200 block of Bushlach Road in Skamania County. Deputy W. Helton and K9 Remi, along with several other Skamania County deputies, responded to the location in an attempt to apprehend the suspect. After tracking the suspect for nearly an hour, K9 Remi located and captured Ricky Lape, 53, of Washougal. Lape was later transported to the Skamania County Correctional Facility and booked on numerous felony charges.

Sheriff Scheyer stated, “I am overjoyed by the incredible performance Deputy W. Helton and K9 Remi exhibited during these incidents. Deputy Helton works diligently with K9 Remi and I am so thankful for his dedication to this position. Patrol canines are an invaluable law enforcement partner capable of incredible feats. This was shown very clearly during these incidents.”
