On 08/24/2024, the Skamania County Communications Center received a report of a deceased male located in the Wind River, approximately 1,000 feet downriver from Shipherd Falls, outside of Carson, Washington. Due to the hazardous conditions and time of day, the subject could not be accessed until 08/25/2024. Volunteers with specialized swift water training from Skamania County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, along with a volunteer from the kayaking guide service, Wet Planet, successfully recovered the male and he was transported to the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. Although the incident is still under investigation, the cause of death appears accidental and further details of the male’s identity have been withheld pending next of kin notification.
