*Controlled definition: A fire is considered controlled when it’s not only fully contained but also the fire has been burned out. Once a fire is controlled, there’s little chance of the fire escaping the perimeter. However, areas may be monitored to prevent reignition.
*Contained definition: A fire is considered contained when firefighters have established a control line (or firebreak) around the entire perimeter of the fire. This means the threat of spread is significantly reduced and control lines are expected to hold, however areas could reignite and need to be monitored.
