For more than a decade, Skamania County has been without 24-hour patrol coverage, leaving a gap in law enforcement services and response. However, beginning in 2026, Skamania County deputies will be patrolling around the clock, providing coverage during those times previously vacated. Despite losing two Deputy positions in 2025, Sheriff Summer Scheyer worked with guild contract negotiators to create a new schedule, allowing 24-hour coverage and safer working conditions for patrol with strategic staffing.
“Returning 24-hour patrol staffing has been a priority. This will reduce overtime for callouts during times where deputies were not staffed, provide quicker response times, and create a greater deterrent for crimes during the window where deputies were not present,” stated Sheriff Scheyer. “I am very happy with this recent development.”
