On Saturday, August 1st, 2026, the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue (SAR) Team, Skamania County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and the Silver Star Search and Rescue Team responded to a medical emergency involving a hiker near the summit of Dog Mountain in Skamania County.
The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from a hiker reporting a medical emergency and requesting assistance. Due to the remote location of the incident and the potential severity of the reported medical condition, the Sheriff’s Office initiated a Search and Rescue mission to assist EMS personnel in reaching the patient.
Skamania County EMS personnel hiked to the patient’s location carrying specialized medical equipment. Upon reaching the patient near the summit, responders conducted a medical assessment, provided appropriate treatment, and determined the patient was able to safely descend the trail with assistance from EMS and Search and Rescue personnel.
After reaching the trailhead, the patient received an additional medical evaluation from EMS personnel.
